Lady Bears Sweep Weekly Honors for Second Time This Season

BROOKLYN, NY – For the second time this season, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team swept United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) and Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) weekly accolades with Andrea Sideli (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) earning Player of the Week honors, Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) selected as Pitcher of the Week and Jackie Perillo (Howard Beach, NY/Archbishop Molloy) named as Rookie of the Week. 

Sideli, a junior outfielder/first baseman, received Player of the Week honors from the USCAA, AD3I and HVWAC, the first time in her career receiving either award. Sideli went 7-for-14 at the plate and collected 10 RBI, three runs, a double, a walk and two stolen bases to lead the Lady Bears to a 5-1 week. In game one of a doubleheader sweep of Lehman College, she went 3-for-3 with five RBI and two runs. Against Brooklyn College, she hit a two-out, two-run, game-winning single in the sixth inning of the opener to propel the Lady Bears to a 4-2 victory and an eventual doubleheader sweep.

Chiaramonte, a senior pitcher/outfielder, was selected as HVWAC Pitcher of the Week of the fifth consecutive week and received her second USCAA Pitcher of the Week nod this season.  She compiled a 3-1 record in the circle and assembled a 1.12 ERA, striking out 35 batters over 25 innings of work. Chiaramonte's week was highlighted by a three-hit shutout, her ninth of the season, striking out seven in a 1-0 victory over St. Joseph's College (Long Island).

Perillo, a freshman outfielder, earned her second straight HVWAC Softball Rookie of the Week selection batting .294, collecting five hits, five RBI, four runs, a double three walks and a stolen base. Perillo highlighted her week with a 3-for-3 effort with three RBI and a run scored in game two of the doubleheader sweep of Brooklyn College.

The Lady Bears (23-10) conclude their regular season on the road against USCAA rivals Briarcliffe College on Thursday, May 3rd.  The doubleheader will take place at the SJC Outdoor Athletic Complex in Patchogue, NY with game one starting at 6 p.m.  Fans unable to attend the game can watch the live video and stats on
