  • Bears Garner USCAA Year End Honors

    OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME – Three Bears have been honored as the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) announced their year-end awards at the USCAA National Baseball Championships in Old Orchard Park, ME. Junior Kevin Diaz (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) was named as an All-American Honorable Mention and senior Kevin Hernandez (Corona, NY/Newtown) and junior Joseph Boccia (Westwood, NJ/Westwood) made the National All-Academic Team.
  • Five Bears Selected to AD3I All-Independent Teams

    OVERLAND PARK, KS – The Association for Division III Independents (AD3I) released their 2011 All-Independent teams, with five Bears being recognized for their play this year. For the second straight season, St. Joseph’s had two representatives on the All-Independent First Team. Freshman Joseph Mendez (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) becomes the first Bear to ever make the First Team as a freshman and Jon Mendez (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) earns a spot on the First Team squad for the first time after being named to the Second Team the past two seasons.
  • Boccia, Mendez Collect 100th Hit; Bears Sweep Yeshiva

    BRONX, NY – Juniors Joseph Boccia (Westwood, NJ/Westwood) and Jon Mendez (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) both became the first players in the four year history of St. Joseph's College baseball to record 100 career hits yesterday in game one of a doubleheader against Yeshiva. Boccia singled in each of the first two innings and Mendez doubled in the third to reach the milestone. The Bears improve to 8-22 on the season after sweeping the Maccabees 8-3 and 4-3.
  • Offense Explodes for 18 Runs, Splits Doubleheader

    BROOKLYN, NY – In their previous five games, including game one of Saturday’s doubleheader against NYU-Poly, the St. Joseph’s baseball team scored 19 runs. In the second inning of game two, they scored seven on their way to their biggest offensive outburst of the season in the 18-4 win.
  • Bears Struggle in 13-4 Loss to USMMA

    KINGS POINT, NY – St. Joseph’s traveled to Long Island, looking to avenge an early season loss the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA). The Bears were unsuccessful though, falling 13-4.
  • Mount Saint Mary Spoils Bears Afternoon With Seven Run Sixth

    BELLEROSE, NY – The St. Joseph's College baseball team couldn't overcome a seven run sixth inning by Mount Saint Mary and dropped their third straight game, suffering a 10-7 setback on Thursday afternoon at Padavan-Preller Fields.
  • Bears Late Inning Rally Against NJCU Falls Short

    BROOKLYN, NY – New Jersey City University jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but the St. Joseph’s College baseball team staged a late rally, posting deuces in the seventh and eighth innings, but couldn’t overcome the Gothic Knights in the final frame, falling 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon at MCU Park.
  • One Comeback Not Enough, Bears Fall to Purchase

    BROOKLYN, NY – Carrying some momentum from a sweep of John Jay the previous night, St. Joseph’s looked to continue their winning ways against Purchase. The Bears drew first blood against Panthers, but couldn’t maintain their lead and despite tying the game in the bottom of the seventh, fell 13-6 on Sunday afternoon at MCU Park.
  • Bears Sweep John Jay, Snap Seven Game Skid

    BROOKLYN, NY – The Bears’ bats came alive on Saturday afternoon producing 23 runs taking both ends of a doubleheader, 8-1 and 15-7, from John Jay College at the American Legion Field. It was a true team effort with all ten Bears' batters recording an RBI, and nine driving in two runs each.
  • Sloppy Play Dooms St. Joseph’s at Maritime

    THROGGS NECK, NY – St. Joseph’s was the recipient of both good and bad luck Thursday afternoon against SUNY Maritime. The Bears were able to climb to a 5-1 lead over the Privateers thanks to some early miscues, but gave the lead right back in a 10-5 loss.
  • Bears Fall in Extra Innings, Drop Twin-Bill to Baruch

    BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s College baseball team held one run leads on two occasions, but ultimately fell in 5-4 in nine innings in the opener of a doubleheader against Baruch College at MCU Park on Saturday afternoon. A six-run frame in game two proved too much of a deficit to overcome, also losing the nightcap 7-4.
  • Bears Unable to Hold Off CCNY

    NEW YORK, NY – The St. Joseph’s College baseball team clung on to a one-run lead for most of the game, but couldn’t fend off the City College of New York, falling 9-6 on Wednesday afternoon at Randall’s Island.
  • Bears Swept in Long Island, Losing Two to Old Westbury

    OLD WESTBURY, NY - Playing their second doubleheader in as many days, St. Joseph’s couldn’t repeat their sweep from Saturday and dropped both games to Old Westbury, 8-5 and 14-2, Sunday afternoon. The Panthers had 14 hits in each game and outhit the Bears 28-7 for the doubleheader. Old Westbury also took advantage of some Bears miscues, scoring a total of 11 unearned runs.
  • Joe Mendez’ Walk-Off Homer Powers Bears to Sweep of Rivier in Home Opener

    BELLEROSE, NY – Freshman Joseph Mendez (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) hit a walk-off three-run homer giving the St. Joseph’s College baseball team a 5-3 victory over Rivier in their home opener at Padavan-Preller Field. The Bears followed it up with a 15 hit barrage in the nightcap to sweep the Raiders, 12-6.
  • Staten Island Uses Big Innings to Sweep Doubleheader

    STATEN ISLAND, NY – St. Joseph’s played Staten Island close for most of both games, but a six-run sixth in game one and a five-run fifth in game two put the Dolphins over the top as they swept the Bears at the College of Staten Island Baseball Complex on Sunday afternoon. The Bears fall to 1-9 on the season while Staten Island improves to 4-6.
  • Bears Earn First Win of Season in Split With Lehman

    BRONX, NY – The St. Joseph’s College baseball team notched the first win of their third full varsity season defeating Lehman College,17-6, in the first game of a double header on Friday night. Lehman would bounce back to take the nightcap, 13-4.

    THROGGS NECK, NY – After a three week break since opening their 2011 schedule in Myrtle Beach, SC, the St. Joseph’s College men’s baseball team returned to action dropping a doubleheader to Maritime, 6-1 and 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Reinhart Field. Maritime improves to 4-1 while St. Joseph’s falls to 0-6 on the young season.

    BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph's College men's baseball team is beginning its third season as a varsity sport. The Bears won 10 games last year under new Head Coach Scott Losche. St. Joseph's has a strong group of returners and an impressive set of freshman that has the coaching staff looking forward to getting the season under way.

    MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The St. Joseph’s baseball team wrapped up their trip to Myrtle Beach, SC with a loss to Richard Stockton, 8-2. The Bears finished 0-4 on the trip. They ran into some great pitching and the offense was unable to get the bats going after the first game.

    MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Continuing their weekend in Myrtle Beach, the St. Joseph’s College baseball team was defeated by the Richard Stockton Ospreys, 13-3. The Bears had only three hits, one for extra bases, while the Ospreys touched up St. Joseph’s pitching staff for 11 hits while also taking nine walks and three hit by pitches.
  • Erne Keeps Bears Off Balance in Loss

    MYRTLE BEACH, SC – After scoring nine runs in the opening game of the Cal Ripken Experience, St. Joseph’s has scored five in the following two games. The Bears offense went flat in game two of Saturday’s day/night doubleheader, as they fell to SUNY Oswego, 10-2.
  • Bears Open Season With Loss to Oswego

    MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The St. Joseph’s College Men’s baseball team kicked off their season at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC Friday night. It was the team’s first ever trip to the facilities under second year Head Coach Scott Losche. The Bears opened up with Oswego State from the powerful SUNY Athletic Conference, and fell 20-9.
