Cross Country Finishes in Eighth at Stevens Invitational

JERSEY CITY, NJ – St. Joseph's men's and women's cross country teams had eighth place finishes at the Stevens Tech Invitational held at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ on Friday afternoon.  Teresa Mangan(Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) had the best finish just being edged out of the top ten in 11th  place.

The Lady Bears competed in the 4K competition that was won by Division I St. Peter's.  St. Joseph's had a good showing finishing ahead of Old Westbury, Monroe and New Rochelle in the 11 team field.  Mangan paced the team for the second straight week, crossing the line in 17:43 followed by Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic)  finishing in 36th place with a time of 20:33.  Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis), Kristin Binckes (Brooklyn, NY/St. Savior) and Nia-Sophia Diez  rounded out the top five.

The Bears also competed in the 4K competition that was won by host Stevens and finished ahead of Old Westbury and Monroe.  Freshman Javier Bosque (Queens, NY/La Salle) led St. Joseph's with a time of 14:54 for a 23rd  place finish.  Senior Ed Han (McLean, VA/W.T. Woodson) finished in 15:59 in 31st place.  Lew Monaco (Staten Island, NY/Msgr. Farrell) , Mike Dziewit (Ridgewood, NY/Wadleigh)  and Maciej Sadowski(Brooklyn, NY/Cathedral Prep) rounded out the scoring five.

Cross country will be back in action on Saturday, October 3rd  at the Mount Saint Mary Invitational.
