Lady Bears Grab Top Honors as Six Named to All-Independent Softball Teams
OVERLAND PARK, KS – For the second time in school history, the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Softball Player of the Year reigns from St. Joseph’s College. Sophomore pitcher Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) was selected for the Association’s top honor after a dominating season in the circle and at the plate. St. Joseph’s also grabbed two more of the special year end accolades with freshman shortstop Millicia Malvasio (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) tabbed Co-Rookie of the Year and Frank P. Carbone named Coach of the Year.

Lady Bears Capture Third Place at Nationals in a Thriller Over Briarcliffe
AKRON, OH – Andrea Sideli (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) scored on a walk-off sacrifice fly from Millicia Malvasio (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) in the bottom of the 7th inning to give the #6 St. Joseph’s College softball team a 1-0 victory over #4 Briarcliffe College on Monday afternoon in the third place game of the USCAA National Softball Championships.

Lady Bears Championship Run Ends with Loss in Semis
AKRON, OH – The St. Joseph’s College softball team carried a two run lead into the sixth inning against #2 seed St. Mary-of-the-Wood, but a seven run frame ended the Lady Bears bid for their first USCAA National Championship, falling 8-2 in the semifinals on Sunday evening at Firestone Stadium.

AKRON, OH – In a pitcher’s duel that saw both pitchers combine for 27 strikeouts, the St. Joseph’s College softball team dropped a 2-1 decision to Southern Virginia in extra innings in the first round of the USCAA National Softball Championships at Firestone Stadium in Akron, OH.

Five Lady Bears Receive USCAA Year-End Accolades
AKRON, OH – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) announced their 2010 Softball All-American and All-Academic Teams at the awards banquet commencing the 2010 USCAA National Softball Championship. Alyson Chiaramonte and Millicia Malvasio were All-American selections and Lisa Scheer received All-American Honorable Mention. Jackie Marinello and Christina Girardi were named to the All-Academic Team.

Palmieri's Grand Slams Give Lady Bears HVWAC Tournament Championship
BRONXVILLE, NY – Emily Palmieri (Staten Island, NY/St. John's Villa) blasted two grand slams and knocked in nine runs powering the St. Joseph’s College softball team to the 2010 Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference Invitational championship. Palmieri was also named the tournament Most Valuable Player.

BROOKLYN, NY – In announcements released earlier this week, sophomore Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) was selected as Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Softball Player of the Week and Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week and freshman Andrea Sideli (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney)was named HVWAC Softball Rookie of the Week for games ending April 25th.

BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s College softball team plated six runs in the sixth inning completing a six-run comeback to take a 12-9 victory in the nightcap of the Alumni Night/Breast Cancer Awareness Doubleheader at National Grid Softball Field on Tuesday night. The Lady Bears won the opener, 5-0, behind a four-hit shutout by Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic).

PURCHASE, NY – Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) fired a two-hitter and collected four hits leading the St. Joseph’s College softball team to a split with Purchase College on Friday afternoon. The Lady Bears took the opener 5-1 while the Panthers earned the split in the nightcap 5-2.

BROOKLYN, NY – Sophomore Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) accumulated four hits, drove in four runs and tossed a one-hit shutout leading the St. Joseph’s College softball team to a sweep of a Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference doubleheader, 10-0 and 11-0, over Sarah Lawrence College at National Grid Softball Field on Sunday afternoon in front of the largest home crowd this season as the team celebrated Family & Friends Day.

BROOKLYN, NY – Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) allowed only two runs and Caitlyn Kakavas (Bayside, NY/St. Agnes) and Emily Palmieri (Staten Island, NY/St. John's Villa) each drove in a run and scored once to lead the St. Joseph’s College softball team to a 6-2 victory in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader against Brooklyn College on Thursday. The nightcap was called due to darkness ending in a 3-3 tie.

Scheer and Malvasio Tabbed for USCAA, AD3I and HVWAC Weekly Accolades
BROOKYLN, NY – Recognizing their outstanding play in a week that the Lady Bears picked up five wins, Lisa Scheer (Bayside, NY/Mary Louis) was named Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Player of the Week and selected as Pitcher of the Week by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC). Freshman Millicia Malvasio (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) was named HVWAC Player of the Week and given USCAA Honorable Mention.

BROOKLYN, NY – Sophomore Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) struck out 12 batters and allowed only two hits, leading the St. Joseph’s College softball team to a 6-0 non-conference victory over Old Westbury on Tuesday night at National Grid Greenpoint Softball Field. The Panthers earned a split in the nightcap, 4-0, behind a 16 strikeout shutout from freshman Alyssa Clancy (Remsenburg, NY).

BRONXVILLE, NY – Sophomore Lisa Scheer (Bayside, NY/Mary Louis) tossed a no-hitter (five innings) and struck out seven, leading the St. Joseph’s College softball team to a Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference sweep of the College of New Rochelle 18-0 and 10-2 on Sunday afternoon.

HOLTSVILLE, NY – In a heated battle between two-ranked USCAA squads, #6 Briarcliffe College edged out the #7 St. Joseph’s College softball team in a duo of one-run contests at the PAL Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon. Millicia Malvasio (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) collected four hits with three doubles over the twinbill to lead the Lady Bears at the plate.

PATCHOGUE, NY – Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) pitched her third shutout of the season and Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) knocked three hits, leading the St. Joseph’s College softball team to a 9-0 victory over sister campus St. Joseph’s-Long Island on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles split the series taking the nightcap 7-2.

BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s College softball combined for 22 runs on 13 hits in a sweep of York College 12-4, 10-2 on Thursday afternoon at National Grid Softball Field. The Lady Bears improve to 7-5 and snap a five-game skid while the Cardinals fall to 0-8.

TUCSON, AZ – The St. Joseph’s College softball team earned their second ever victory at the Tucson Invitational Games in their fifth appearance, and improved to 5-0 to start the season defeating Edgewood College 4-2 on Thursday afternoon at Lincoln Field.

BROOKLYN, NY – Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) led the St. Joseph’s College softball team to a 4-0 start to their 2010 season earning two wins on the mound and batting .727 (8-for-11) and was selected as the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Pitcher of the Week and Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Player of the Week for games ending March 21 as announced in releases by both Associations earlier today.

BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s College softball team improved to 4-0 to start the 2010 season defeating City Tech twice by a 14-0 margin on Sunday afternoon at National Grid Softball Field. Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) collected four hits, three RBI and four runs and earned a win on the mound in game two, striking out 12.

WEST HAVEN, CT – The St. Joseph’s College softball team opened their 2010 campaign sweeping Albertus Magnus 9-0 and 16-1 at West Haven High School on Friday night. Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) had an impressive rookie debut collecting seven runs, five hits, four RBI, three doubles and a triple.
