  • Final NCAA Division III Baseball Statistics Released

    In the final statistics report for 2012, junior pitcher Paul Piccirillo finished in the top 50 in three categories, ranked 20th in hits allowed per nine innings, 21st in victories and 42nd in complete games. Senior Joseph Boccia was also among those ranked, finishing 181st in batting average.

    Paul Piccirillo becomes the first Bear to receive Association of Division III Independents Pitcher of the Year honors and was named First Team All-Independent along with Joe Mendez, Thomas McKenna and Chris Cutrone. Michael Cundari, Joseph Boccia and Vinny Rossi were named to the Second Team.

    After finishing with a perfect 9-0 record, junior Paul Piccirillo ended his season ranked tied for 10th in the nation in victories. The Bears also cracked the top 10 in the team rankings moving to 7th in double plays per game.

    Recognizing his perfect 9-0 record on the mound, Paul Piccirillo became the first Bear to receive USCAA Baseball All-American honors. Joseph Boccia and Mike Cundari were named to the National All-Academic Team, Boccia receiving the honor for the second time in his career.

    Paul Piccirillo improved to 9-0 tossing a two-hit shutout, Joe Mendez had four RBI and head coach Scott Losche notched his 100th career win as the Bears sent seniors Joseph Boccia and Danny Contant off with a four-game winning streak and the first .500 or better season, sweeping Yeshiva University 10-0 and 6-1, to finish their 2012 campaign at 18-17.

  • Briarcliffe Uses Big Inning to Defeat Bears

    The Bears led 5-4 after four innings, but Briarcliffe College scored 13 runs in the fifth to take a 17-5 victory. Joseph Boccia collected a pair of hits with a RBI, run and a double. Kevin Diaz also knocked two hits and Michael Cundari extended his hitting streak to 12 games.
  • Road Game Against Drew Added to Baseball Schedule

    A single game at Drew on Wednesday, May 2nd at 4 p.m. has been added to the baseball schedule. It will be the third time the Bears and Rangers will meet this season with the squads splitting the season series.
  • Piccirillo Remains in Top 10 in Division III in Victories

    Junior pitcher Paul Piccirillo kept pace with with the Division III baseball leaders with his complete game victory over John Jay last week. Piccirillo moved up slightly into a tie for 7th in victories and tied for 30th in complete games through Sunday, April 22nd.

    Paul Piccirillo struck out a career-high 11 batters, matching a school record, and improved to 8-0 on the mound as the Bears defeated John Jay, 2-1. Michael Cundari had the game-tying RBI and scored the go ahead run, extending his hitting streak to 10 games.
  • Bears Three-Game Streak Snapped at Arcadia

    The Bears had a .500 record within reach, a mark never reached this late in the season by any Bears club, but fell behind early and couldn't recover falling on the road to Arcadia, 10-2. Vinny Rossi knocked two hits and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Rob Mongiori went 3-for-4. Mike Cundari and Kevin Diaz extended their hitting streaks to nine games.
  • Piccirillo Records 100th Strikeout in Comeback Win Over Lehman

    The Bears broke a 5-5 tie with a pair of runs in the seventh inning to defeat Lehman College, 7-5. Junior Paul Piccirillo pitched his fourth complete game of the season earning his seventh win. Piccirillo allowed five runs on six hits in nine innings while striking out seven hitters.

    Freshman Thomas McKenna was named Association of Division III Independents Player of the Week for the first time in his career, recognizing a week where he batted .519, which included a five-hit game (tying a school record) and a walk-off game-winning suicide bunt in extra innings.

    The Bears displayed their offensive firepower scoring 23 runs on a team-best 27 hits in a 23-5 win over Drew. Chris Cutrone reached base six times with four hits and two walks while scoring three runs and driving in three more. Thomas McKenna knocked five hits, including his second homer and picked up four RBI.

    St. Joseph's won in dramatic fashion once again, earning a 5-4 victory in 10 innings in game two of a doubleheader with SUNY Canton on Thomas McKenna's walk-off suicide squeeze bunt. It was the second win in three games that ended with a walk-off hit.

    Freshman Vinny Rossi gives the Bears a 6-5 win with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth. Rossi finished the day 2-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base. Donny Pagano held the hot-hitting Bearcats in check going nine innings allowing four earned runs and five hits for his second win of the season.
