  • Mendez Co-Rookie of the Year Highlights AD3I All-Independent Baseball Teams

    KANSAS CITY, MO – For the second straight year, the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Baseball Rookie of the Year hails from St. Joseph’s College. Jon Mendez (Brooklyn, NY/Xavarian), a freshman catcher, was named the 2009 Co-Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-Independent catcher in a release sent out by the Association earlier today naming the 2009 All-Independent Baseball Teams.

    BROOKLYN, NY – Anthony Langone (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) had two RBI and two runs and Jon Mendez(Brooklyn, NY/Xavarian) drove in two as the St. Joseph’s College baseball team (12-20) lost two games to Newbury College(6-26) on Sunday afternoon in very hot and sunny weather at Juniper Park in Middle Village, Queens. The losses extend the Bears losing skid to six games.
  • Baseball Drops Two to Mount Saint Mary

    NEWBURGH, NY – Jason Iannozzi (Brooklyn, NY/Kingsborough CC), Keith Juricich (San Mateo, CA/Canada College) and Steve Tanamal (Brooklyn, NY/New Urtecht HS) each had four hits in a losing effort over a two-game set where the St. Joseph’s College baseball team (12-18) fell to Mount Saint Mary (25-9) on Saturday afternoon. The Bears let a five-run lead slip away in the final inning, losing 11-10 in eight innings, and dropping the second game 13-2.
  • Baseball Falls to Baruch

    BROOKLYN, NY – A.J. Passione (Brooklyn, NY/Xavarian) went 3-for-4 and Chris Davidson(San Carlos, CA/Canada College) had three RBI in a losing effort as the St. Joseph’s College baseball team (12-16) dropped a 9-4 decision to Baruch College (15-9) in nine innings at Old Boys High School on Thursday afternoon. The game was a makeup of the originally scheduled matchup on April 11th that was cancelled by rain.

This is his first time receiving either honor.

    LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – Freshman Jon Mendez(Brooklyn, NY/Xavarian) went 6-for-10 with a home run, three doubles, 10 RBI and six runs over a two-game set where the St. Joseph’s College baseball team swept Lincoln University 21-11 and 27-4. The Bears capture the season series 3-1 after splitting at home earlier this season.

    BROOKLYN, NY – Chris Coffey (Brooklyn, NY/Kingsborough CC) pitched seven innings surrendering only two hits and Jon Mendez(Brooklyn, NY/Xavarian) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in a 19-1 victory over John Jay College on Thursday afternoon at Keyspan Park. St. Joseph’s improves to 8-13 while John Jay falls to 6-18 and both teams split the season series one game apiece.

    TAKOMA PARK, MD – The St. Joseph’s College baseball team (7-13) concluded their southern road stand with a 9-2 loss to defending USCAA National Champion Columbia Union College (14-12) in a nine-inning game. In the third coaches poll released earlier today, Columbia Union was ranked third and St. Joseph’s jumped five places to twelfth.

    WASHINGTON, DC – St. Joseph’s College baseball remained undefeated on their spring break road trip defeating Gallaudet University 9-4 and 6-1 on Sunday afternoon. The games were pushed up from Monday due to the forecast of rain. Chris Davidson (San Carlos, CA/Canada College) and Jon Cubero (Brooklyn, NY/Xavarian) picked up their first wins of the season.
  • Men’s Baseball Nearly Sweeps Purchase

    PURCHASE, NY – St. Joseph’s College men’s baseball picked up their third win of the season on Saturday afternoon over Purchase College 9-2 behind a complete game four-hitter from Chris Coffey(Brooklyn, NY/Kingsborough CC). The Bears fell in extra innings in the second game of the doubleheader, the Panthers scoring three-runs in the bottom seventh to tie the game, and another in the eighth for the 7-6 comeback win.

    (HOBOKEN, NJ) St. Joseph’s College men’s baseball held an early 4-1 lead but lost to Stevens Institute of Technology by a 6-4 margin on Wednesday afternoon in nine innings. St. Joseph’s falls to 2-11 and Stevens improves to 8-7.
  • Bears Baseball Splits With Lincoln For Second Win

    (BROOKLYN, NY) St. Joseph’s College men’s baseball lost 13-9 and won 10-4 against Lincoln University on Sunday afternoon at Old Boys High School. Jon Mendez (Brooklyn, NY/Xavarian) led the Bears over the two game set slugging 1.000, reaching base in 7-of-8 plate appearances, with two hits, a double, four walks, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Mendez also pitched two scoreless, no-hit innings in the win. Mykelle Cortez (Brooklyn, NY/Cobble Hill HS) pitched 5.0 innings, striking out four and picking up his first win of the season.
  • Men’s Baseball Splits With Staten Island to Pick Up First Win of Season

    (STATEN ISLAND, NY) Chris Coffey (Brooklyn, NY/Kingsborough CC) pitched a complete game three-hit shutout in the opening game of a double header against College of Staten Island to lead the St. Joseph’s College men’s baseball team to their first win of the season. The Bears won the first game 6-0 and lost the second 8-3. St. Joseph’s improves to 1-6 overall and Staten Island goes to 5-5.

    (THROGS NECK, NY) The St. Joseph’s College men’s baseball team lost both games of the doubleheader to SUNY-Maritime on Sunday afternoon, by scores of 10-7 and 5-3. St. Joseph’s falls to 0-5 and Maritime improves to 2-2.

    (BROOKLYN, NY) John Jay (1-10) scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to build an 8-0 lead that would be too much for the Bears to overcome as St. Joseph’s (0-3) lost 10-8 on Friday afternoon at the American Legion Baseball Complex.
  • Men's Baseball Drops Two To Lasell in Home Opener

    (BROOKLYN, NY) The St. Joseph’s College men’s baseball team opened their sophomore season with 11-8 and 12-5 losses to Lasell, another young Division III baseball program, at Old Boys High School on Sunday afternoon. Despite the final scores, the Bears held the lead in both games, but costly errors helped give the advantage to the Lasers. For the two games, St. Joseph’s committed eight errors, while Lasell remained flawless. Chris Davidson (San Carlos, CA/Canada College) led the Bears going 6-for-7 with three RBI’s and three runs scored.
